Main Street Re-Design Public Consultation

It is time to replace our 80 to 100 year old sewer and water lines on Main Street. Given this, it is also the perfect time for us to set the stage for how our Main Street will look and feel in the years to come. The creation of Main Streets look and feel will create the personality and persona of our town for the next 7 decades. As it is with many things in life, there comes a window of opportunity in which you can decide to do the right thing at the right time.

For our Main Street and our Town, that time is now upon us. We encourage one and all to have a look the concept drawings and concept video presentation to share your thoughts and comments with us on Concept A, Concept B and Concept C.

For more information check out the Main Streetscape Concepts Prezi or read more from Simcoe.com.

  1. Extend sidewalk north on Church St.

Many people now walk this street daily and a sidewalk is needed due to increased traffic on this busy street.

  2. Please replant the tree that was planted and just removed from in front of 83 Main Street.

Please replant the tree that was just removed from in front of 83 Main Street. That tree was the nicest thing in that area. Some of us called it the Tree of Life. People living and working in that area were saddened when it was removed (August 16, 2019). Finally there was life/nature and hopefully eventually providing some MUCH NEEDED SHADE.
This plant/ remove is a great example of wasting tax payers money and destroying the environment, all at once.

  6. turning lanes

I think it's a bad idea to have the straight through lane put in with the left turning lane, and the right turning lane all by itself. It just does not make sense on any road, let alone this one which is such a big hill in the winter time.

  8. Save our Open Space - Parkland while still increasing subsidized housing.

Councils direction to increase affordable housing does not need to be at the expense of land conservation for open space. Designated open space or parkland that has supported outdoor recreation should be preserved for present and future taxpayers. There are several properties which are already zoned appropriately to support the need for affordable housing in our community.
The rezoning of 161 Church St.(most know it as part of the sandpit hill) from open space to multi residential will be detrimental. This property is used, and has been for decades, by so many for recreational purposes, including: walking, running, biking, kite flying, family picnics,etc... etc...…

  12. Quit wasting our tax dollars!!!

Every tax payer in Penetanguishene needs to read this article.
Penetanguishene Council is running a dangerous level of debt.

    http://www.simcoe.com/news-story/6254043-penetanguishene-debt-expected-to-rise-by-2-6-million-in-2017/

FYI - OPP costing continues to drop.

  14. Leave Main Street the Way it Was!

I would like to know whose stupid idea this was! For the entire summer the tourists came to our small town only to find congestion and confusion. It would have been far more attractive and inviting to pave Main Street and leave the lanes the way they were. The back ups going down the hill coming into our town were ridiculous. Anyone who lives on Thompsons Road loved it I'm sure. The pot holes on Main Street are out of hand also. You can only fill them in so many times! Those planters looked ridiculous also. I'd like to know…

  15. Leave the street alone!

Spend the money (my property tax money that I work **** hard for) on repairing the main St properly so that I don't destroy my car driving on it but throw your stupid concepts out the window I don't want my money wasted on them. Since this started I have NOT driven down the Main St, back road or side street only. Therefore I have not visited one business on the main st.....shame on you, we have little to chose from now for businesses and you are going to run whats there out of business. If I had a say…

  16. four lanes please

I think replacing the water lines is important and if you wish to bury the hydro lines than absolutely go for it. but leave the road at four lanes. The entrance will look 100x better with a paved road. I think the greenery is silliness and a waste of money. The planter boxes on the road looks ridiculous, every town i know tries to make lanes and widens roads so people can get where there going without the frustration and hold up. I completely avoid the main street because of this and i know everyone else does to (who i've…

  17. LEAVE THE ROAD AT 4 LANES!

Do the work that needs to be done and LEAVE THE ROAD AT 4 LANES! Read the posts! LEAVE THE PARKING ALONE! The designs A B and C are not right for THIS TOWN, MY TOWN! 2 lanes never worked in the past, 3 lanes are confusing and congestive! What does council not understand!!

  18. Changes to Main Street access and parking.

The decrease in lanes and elimination of parking are detrimental to the future of Penetanguishene. Being disabled it limits access to businesses. If we can't park in front of a business, then we won't be able to visit that establishment. As it looks today, the changes are not attractive. We look like a hick town. May as well have a dirt road and allow only horse and buggy. The town needs to move towards the future, not the past.

  19. Leave the historic mural.

I grew up in Penetang and often visit ( Pioneer Days etc. ) I now live in Victoria BC where heritage is valued. Yes there are old & new ads etc. painted on buildings and the a re respected and left to weather.
There are a lot of posts on Face Book about preserving the mural - changing it will be costly and ' not green ' sure if the owner decides to change, ok - but in the mean time - let us all continnue to love it ( check out Chermainous BC " the Little Town that Grew…
